Started a portrait pose today. Its a 2 day pose, heres day 1. The model is molly Johnson, for those who have met her.

The 6 day pose has now come to an end, i spent day 3 and 4 an emotional wreck trying to figure out what the hell i was suppose to do and how i was going to do it. lol. But in the end I feel a sense of improvement has taken place from previous drawings. Slowly, but surely.

You can get a good sense of the process I go through with this drawing. A lot of the figure is still in its basic block in stage with some flat shadow shapes, while other parts are more finished with rendering and "form turning." The leg is what i was getting today, but did not have time to finish along with a lot of other things too obviously. So at the stage I'm at i would probably need like a 30 hour pose to get to a more finished state, this pose was 18 hours(6 sessions) long...and the arrows and stuff on the drawing are just notes to myself about how muscles and other forms over lap, and flow. ONjoy.

Man its been SO long since I've worked digital. Its hard to get back into it, honestly had a lot of trouble just getting use to it again lol. Heres a quick paint I did tonight. Im gonna start working in photoshop more so look forward to seeing more of these, and more polished ones as i improve, hopefully. ONjoy

Today was the last water color day, the school is just trying out some new classes to see if the students would be interested in them being added to the curriculem. Next week we start portraiture.

Heres what i got done today, i attached a black and white just for the value shot. Just incase anyone is curious, the paintings are done in a monotone manner using raw umber. It looks like burnt umber but its just the brand, i wouldn't buy it again.

Well the pose ended and this is what i had done. The left leg wasn't done by me, it was a teacher of mine( thanks a million Craig Blietz) doing a demonstration for me. Really learned a lot from it and it helped me tons, really feel like I've progressed today so the next one should be better.... hopefully.

Heres a block in from the pose at school. This is what I do before I start laying in value, after that ill start to render or "shade". Its been a tough pose...a real challenge for some reason. Thats a good thing though, but there are a lot of corrections to make still.

We had a water color session at school the other day which is 3 hours long so it really forces you to draw, see and look fast. Which is difficult to get use to too after leisurely working on the model so much in charcoal.

Whats funny is, then as time goes on i gradually start to screw it up lol. Seems like block ins are always more appealing than rendering, idk why. So heres at 3 hours, didnt really have time to get to the face.

well i got another check off, so that means im starting my full charcoal cast drawing now. The check was for the "practice" cast i guess i would call it. Just to show us what were basically suppose to do and prepare us idk. But i finished that, it is just a little 4 valu block in no rendering or anything to make it look realistic or whatever. So its just a little basic drawing then blocking in some value shapes. And there is also a picture of the cast i choose to do my drawing of. Voltaire is his name i guess. So this is a picture of the cast, not a drawing lol.

Well today i got signed off the sphere model i was working on, which was just to teach me how to start rendering form. So once he sees i learned what i could off of it and sees that I understand the things that make up a shadow, he moves me on. Im starting a mini cast drawing (the ear in the left of the photo) its a 5 value cast drawing to make sure i got all the basics down. Then I start my first full cast drawing of a head after that! :)

Im going to update with a picture of the board everytime i finish a study.

Been a while huh? For anyone that did not know ive been through a lot the past 2 months. I uped and moved across the country to attend an art academy in Wisconsin. For those who dont know what an academy is, its basically the same thing as an art atelier...its basically a big studio where classic art techniques used by the old master are taught...there are no grades, no pass or fail, and no degree. Just tons of work if your dedicated to an art life. But anyways im settled into my apartment and am a full time student now.

K enough of the jabber. I just took a bunch of pictures of work ive been doing in my first 2 months of the program. I cant stress enough that none of these are finished, close to being finished, or nor am i particularly proud of any of these. There just so you can see what im doing and hopefully one day see how far ive grown. All of these are 18x24 inches. These are all just blocking in the figure using the Charles Bargue method, then blocking in shadow shapes. Then from there you would start to render form. Which i have just started in some of these. But you can clearly tell from the pictures that i have no idea what im doing lol.

K seriously enough jabber...sorry guys. Most of you i dont think are artist so i thought id kinda explain whats going on.

This is the board of the program each time i finish a section i get checked off...just to put things into perspective O_O Im the new guy....

This is the sectioin that i got checked off for the 4 Bargue drawings. Which are done by representing the plate im looking at as accurate as possible..to my eyes ability. This starts to teach students the bargue block in method and starts to train the eye.

Here is my little work space where im working on the sphere model from a sphere mold with a light source. This is the beginning of learning to model/render form. Again, no idea what im doing but trying to learn :) My space is pretty bare lol..you know me im a minimalist :) (or just lazy)

These are all focused on blocking in the form using straight lines and paying all attention to proportions. Starting to "train my eye". All are from a live nude model. Which is much more difficult than drawing from photos like i use to do. But you learn so much more! None are finished, there all a different levels cause the amount of time spent on each varies. Each one is just an experiment to improve and trying to figure out what the hell im doing haha. No specific order here, this is only like half of the ones that ive done already.

And heres just a pic of the student lounge. Those paintings on the wall are oil cast paintings done by higher level students and graduates none of them are mine.

This is a figure study ive been working on for a little while now, i used a whole new technique i was told to use, so the whole thing was a mix between a huge learning experience, and me trying to push it to the next level. I think im done with this study for now, i want to start a whole new one and use all the things ive learned from this..feel free to speak your mind. Hope you enjoy..

I drew up a tattoo for a good friend of mine, been working on it the past week and im glad to say that its finally finished. I had a lot of fun working on it, very frustrating at times though. I guess you could say ive never actually finished a digital painting before, So I learnt many things from the classic trial and error way...actually did the face and hands lol. Well heres the first 2 ideation sketches and then the final piece.

So here I have designed a bike from the ground up, that actually came from a dream of mine..well this is a rendition of one that was in my dream. I took liberties to change it...

So this bike, is big and its fast, like the length of a small car, But much faster!(V6 in a bike) So fast that the driver is placed behind a dome like front end and views the road through a camera which is displayed on a monitor inside the "dome". This is a bike for a character in the making. A sexy blood thirsty chick who kills. If unlucky you may see this chick and bike around the streets of Yokosoka and Tokyo, for that is where she lurks....

And this is just a quickly painted color option, which actually came from a song stuck in my head called, you guessed it "BLACK AND GOLD" lol

ya so its been a while since ive updated some things, these are just 2 paintings from my painting course im in right now. Improved alot since the beginning, but have a HUGE amount to learn still.

Here ya guys go..the photo screwed up the colors a bit, reds are much to saturated in the photo..and there a little dark but you gets the point

Ok so I reworked that "manly" ones face. Tell me if thats better, the cheek bone and eye brows were both too manly, so i reworked them a little.. And I did another sketch of a chica..iono its ight..lemme know..
